Relations between the European Union, India and China today are of central importance for international trade, global economic stability and world peace. Strategic partnerships link the EU and India and the EU and China. They provide a framework for the development of an increasing range of shared interests ranging far beyond trade. This book analyses and assesses these relations. The first part concerns the development of strategic partnerships between the EU and India and the EU and China. The second part focuses on the contents of strategic partnerships, including negotiating strategies, environmental protection, arms embargo, human rights, cultural diversity and regulation of pharmaceutical products. It emphasizes the extent to which each partner values the strategic partnership while nonetheless maintaining its own priorities.
