Fiche détaillée de "Les traites monarchomaques : confusion des temps, resistance armee et monarchie parfaite (1560-1600)"

Résumé
Pierre-Alexis Mellet examines a series of Reformation pamphlets through the concept of monarchomaque, which he defines as a Calvinist author who, during the Wars of Religion, preaches the rejection of tyranny, conditional obedience, double alliances, popular sovereignty and legitimate armed resistance. After a lengthy discussion of the arguments advanced, the circulation of their works throughout Europe, the Biblical and historical sources invoked, and comparisons with texts by the same authors, Mellet concludes that it would be better to speak of monarchomaque treatises rather than authors.
