Fiche détaillée de "Memoires De Benjamin Aubery Du Maurier, Ambassadeur Protestant De Louis Xiii (1566-1636)"

Résumé
Benjamin Aubery served Louis XIII, first in financial administration, then as diplomat, notably as ambassador to the United Neth-erlands from 1613 to 1624. Aubery's memoirs demonstrate a slow secularization of international relations, as well as the importance of the United Netherlands in French diplomacy at the beginning of the seventeenth century. This critical edition of Aubery's writings also shows a fervent protestant who was able to reconcile his reformist identity and unshakeable loyalty to the king. Finally, these memoirs illustrate the political and social mutations of French society from the Ligue to Richelieu's rise to power. French text.
